Check Compatibility

Microsoft Office 2007 and Office 2010 are in a new file format: XML (Extended Markup Language). All new files now have four letter extensions. For example, Excel 2010 workbooks are saved as myname.xlsx.

The format is so different that older versions of Microsoft Office cannot even open the new files without a free add-on. People are slow to upgrade their systems. So, there may be some Compatibility issues.

5. Try it: Check Compatibility

Go to File ->Info->Check for Issues.

Click on Compatibility Checker.

Compatibility issues are grouped into 2 categories: Significant and Minor loss of functionality. What do you lose? The new Themes and Styles are not supported by earlier versions of Microsoft Office. New functions such as Sparklines and PivotTable Slicers are not supported, either.

(Aw, you never let me have any fun.)
